It looks like a much anticipated Middleweight battle at UFC 184 is about to be scratched due to that dreaded injury bug.

Former Strikeforce Middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (21-3) has withdrawn from the February 28 fight in Los Angeles at the Staples Center against Yoel Romero (9-1).  Pneumonia has been listed as the cause of the withdrawal, and the fight is expected to be rescheduled for a later date yet to be announced.

“Jacare” is on a seven fight winning streak since losing the Strikeforce MW title to Luke Rockhold in September 2011, last defeating Gegard Mousasi by submission this past September.  A win in his next fight can land him a spot in the next MW championship bout.

Romero is on a five fight win streak, with his last win coming against Tim Kennedy at UFC 178 in September.  That fight was mired in controversy during “Stool Gate”…
