Conor McGregor and the UFC remind me of a marriage. Sometimes you have your differences but at the end of the day, you know what you have is special.
That is the case with UFC 200. 200 events in an 23 year span. Not including UFC Fight Night specials & UFC on Fox of course. However, 200 pay per view events for the most part. It is a monumentous occasion. Despite differences between McGregor & the UFC one thing is for sure, both understand that UFC 200 is better and more profitable with Conor McGregor on the card.
McGregor sent out tweet thanking UFC and Dana White for putting him back on card. No word from anyone official in UFC yet. I am pretty sure it is all but official. It is unfortunate it took some heat away from UFC 197 but McGregor proved to be a mega star and all it took was a Tuesday tweet in 140 characters or less. Let’s see how it plays out.
Interim Light Heavyweight Championship
Jon Jones vs OSP
We learned that Jon Jones is still of one of the greatest our sport of MMA has ever seen. I know he has had his share of problems. One thing is for sure, when 100% and not distracted from drugs, parties and wreck less driving, he is one of the best in the world at what he does.
Jones dominated that fight Saturday and even flipped the bird to Daniel Cormier after the fight. Jones feels that it is a fake belt. I have not heard that Jones had a significant injury coming out of this fight. If Cormier heals in time for 200, can the card be even more stacked than DC vs Jones 2, for the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship?
UFC Flyweight Championship
Demetrius Johnson vs Henry Cejudo
Cejudo great wrestler. Represented our country well in winning the gold medal in the olympics. However that is just one component of MMA. In the sport of MMA it is not just about wrestling. There is judo, jiu jitsu, boxing, muay thai, etc. That is what makes the sport so unique. It is just about practicing by taking 500 shots before a basketball game or hitting fly balls at batting practice before the game. It is about preparing for your opponent depending on the game of your opponent.
Mighty Mouse Johnson proved to be that dominant dynamic fighter. Was not intimidated at all of Cejudo and his olympic resume. He dominated and proved that being dominant in one area doesn’t mean a damn thing. Mighty Mouse is one of the best pound for pound fighters in this sport, hands down. Johnson can box, wrestle, ground game. His game is always evolving. It will be difficult to dethrone him as champion because his game is always changing.
It is why we love this sport. Being able to see so great at what they do and being able to see if someone can take away his crown of champion.
